Now you and your pet(s) can help to recycle, reducing the amount of plastic bags and waste going to the landfill sites. We have two dogs and I always hated poo picking the garden on a daily basis and throwing the bags away. Now I simply scoop it up and put it straight into my wormery with some shredded paper and they eat it up. And if that isn't enough it also produces the most fantastic fertiliser for your garden. Once the worms have digested the dog poo it is fine to put on your garden, but best to keep off the vegetable patch!
Technically speaking these worms can eat anything that has ever lived! But in order for your dog poo wormery to function really well you must only feed it dog waste and not household waste. Combining the two types of waste does not work well. Also, you cannot feed the worms the waste from your dog for 48 hours after worming, you will need to dispose of this separately.
Our Mega Tower is a stackable wormery, consisting of 3 composting boxes and a base box, all re-cycleable plastic, and comes with:
1. 3 x 50 litre composting boxes (L61-W43-H42cm) Silver box colour helps to deflect heat in summer
2. 1 x base box 50 litre (L61-W43-H42cm)
3. Clear plastic lid with anti-escape feature
4. Worm bedding (the same as we use to start our worm beds off with, (not paper))
5. Our quality dendrobaena worms
6. Worm bed cover
7. Anti-escape mesh
8. Our nutrient worm food (for use in the first couple of weeks)
9. Plastic lever tap
10. Instruction leaflet
11. Poo Scoop
Ongoing e-mail and telephone support if required.
Our instruction leaflet gives you guidance on what the worms can and cannot digest, how to harvest the worms, how to collect the castings (fertiliser), and how to maintain productivity within the Worm Tower. Do not save up your pet waste for arrival of your Tower as the worms need to be fed on the worm food for the first couple of weeks and they eat their bedding. This size Tower is suitable for 2 large dogs or equivalent.
Vermicomposting creates some liquid fertiliser 'worm tea', which will drain down through the boxes. The base box will collect this and it will need to be diluted 50/50 with water, it is excellent for your plants.
Worms are fantastic creatures and are completely disease free, but there is no need to physically handle them if you do not wish to with this system! This wormery can be used indoors e.g garden shed, but outdoors is preferrable.
The Dog Poo Tower is very easy to maintain, it is environmentally friendly and educational!
