STOKE WORMS

Welcome to Stoke Worms!

We are a newly established worm farm on Hayling Island, diversification to the existing beef herd. We are able to produce our top quality dendrobaena worms very economically.

These worms are fantastic for fishing and composting. See our ordering page for details on pricing and shipping. Alternatively you can visit our Ebay shop.

Fishing:
They are fantastic worms for fishing as they are tough lively wrigglers and can stand long periods in the water. They are easy to keep and if kept in a cool area will live for up to a couple of weeks in the container provided.

Smaller worms are popular for canal and pond fishing, whilst the medium to large worms are superb for match fishing and catching quality fish i.e. carp, bream, perch, tench and roach.

A few customer comments:
Composting:
These worms are also great composters, they consume their own weight in food every two to three days and their castings (excrement) is the most beneficial natural fertilser for your gardens.

A few facts worth noting:
As long as there is damp organic matter present, worms will continue to feed, breed and grow. They will multiply to the amount of food available and the original volume of organic material added to the bed can be reduced by as much as 90%.

Kitchen waste, garden waste, paper and cardboard can all be composted by our worms. Kitchen waste should really be limited to vegetables, raw or cooked with the exception being any vegetable that is a member of the onion family, including leeks. These must be thoroughly cooked first and mixed with other materials. All fruit can be fed to worms but again all citrus fruit will need to be thoroughly cooked, particularly the peel. Cooking and "mashing" all fruit and vegetables is to be recommended, as it will decompose faster and is processed more quickly by the worms.

Any decaying organic matter that is really smelly is not a problem to the worms. Once the worms start to process it, the smell quickly disappears, so if a worm system is working effectively there is no smell.

Used tea bags and small quantities of bread can all be fed. We would advise you to avoid dairy products, fat, grease and oil, meat and fish and bones, because they will attract unwanted pests and flies.

Garden waste such as leaves, dead plants, grass clippings etc can be put into a worm bin but this will usually slow the composting system down.
